2026 Eighth-Grade Curriculum Kit
General Science 101 approaches science through a clear Biblical worldview while helping students see how biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and natural science connect as parts of a larger picture rather than isolated subjects.
Created by filmmaker, homeschool dad, and science enthusiast Wes Olson, this video-based high school course introduces students to major branches of science through visual demonstrations, real-world examples, and guided explanations designed to make big concepts easier to understand.
Across 14 video segments, students explore topics from earth science and biology to chemistry and physics while building a broad science foundation.
The included guidebook download turns watching into active learning with quizzes, discussion questions, and guided review. The accreditation guide explains how families can structure the course for one full high school science credit.
Students who want more hands-on learning will also find more than 45 hours of lab activities designed to reinforce concepts and expand exploration beyond the screen.
Because the course serves as a broad survey rather than a deep dive into a single discipline, it works particularly well for students building a science foundation before moving into more specialized courses.
Throughout the course, students are encouraged to see scientific disciplines not as isolated subjects, but as interconnected ways of understanding the world around them.
How to Use General Science 101
- Plan on completing one of the 14 video segments about every other week. Most videos run between 22–44 minutes, making them manageable as standalone science sessions or as part of a larger science schedule.
- After each video, use the printable guidebook to work through quizzes, discussion questions, and review activities. These pieces help move the course from passive watching to active learning.
- Students pursuing a full high school science credit should also complete the accreditation program, which includes additional assignments, labs, and supporting activities designed to expand the course into a full-year experience.
- Use the lab activities if desired. With more than 45 hours of experiments available, families can adjust the level of hands-on work depending on schedule, interest, and credit goals.
In the 2026 kits this course earns high school credit:
1 credit of General Science

The course includes 14 segments, each 22–44 minutes, plus a fact-filled 75-page guidebook (printable PDF) with quizzes covering every segment. General Science also includes more than 45 hours of lab work — all lab names, segments, instruction times, and materials lists are in the 22-page Accreditation Program (printable PDF), with everything needed to count this as a full high school science credit.
Printing the included PDFs requires Acrobat Reader.

Inside Our Normal
”General Science 101 is a DVD based, general homeschool science curriculum. It also has the bonus of being a Christian point of view which I want to include this year to show my student God’s order and design in the world of science that we see every day.” Read the Review

”There are 14 units in all, each lasting anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes in length. What’s more, all of these topics are taught from a Christian worldview, which our family really appreciates.” Read the Review

To access the Guidebook and Accreditation Program, insert Disc D into your computer's disc player.
On a PC computer, go to the "Start" button and choose "My Computer." You will be able to directly access the DVD by right-clicking file and selecting "Open" from the drop-down menu. From there, you can open, print, or save the files as needed.
Yes, you will find labs in the Accreditation Program for each curriculum.
Most labs require items that can be easily found in your local store or around the house. We intentionally avoided filming any scenes in a laboratory or with people in white lab coats as we felt that this could create an unnecessary distance between science and students. As a result, nearly every lab and experiment can be conducted with materials that are readily available.
We intentionally limit the use of math in the courses to ensure that both students and parents can fully enjoy the science content. The focus was on highlighting the fascinating aspects of science, while leaving the more challenging mathematical concepts for later study if desired.
Balancing simple equations is the most math-intensive topic covered in the films, and we also introduce the concept of the mole, its development, and its practical applications.
When used with the Accreditation Program, the 101 courses provide students with over 130 hours of engaging and memorable course material that can help prepare them for academic achievement testing.
Most people who use the 101 courses find the content to be completely satisfying, and those who complete the 130 hours of study find it to be more than enough to help them pass academic tests.

This is an excellent introduction to science. It is engaging and practical as it shows how science applies to real life. The videos and short text readings have made this excellent for the 9th grade dyslexic student.

I LOVE watching these videos. I find them interesting and informative. Material is presented in a way to challenge older students but tI still be consumed and understood by younger students.

Mr. Olson does an amazing job! It's like an overview of everything we've called science and gives your student something to hang the different aspects of science on. Also some great ideas of what they might be interested in going more indepth on. His definitions and discussion are clear and the visual additions and presentation have just enough unexpected amusement thrown in to keep the interest of our 4 boys ages 8,12,13, 14 and 10 yr old daughter. He cuts to the point in a very simple yet effective way in so many areas of science that have potential to be hard to understand because of their magnitude, and gives the basic sense of it. Very refreshing clarity especially in these days where things have began to be so convoluted. Appreciate their mix of well thought out text, historical and visual reference, even vocabulary comes in, as well as random fun facts , all giving glory to God as the creator of all!
