Skill Sharpeners Geography - Grade 3
Third-grade geography is full of vast landscapes, powerful natural forces, and fascinating people. In Skill Sharpeners Geography Grade 3, students explore volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, deserts, rivers, mountains, and unique water formations while discovering how geography has influenced cultures, exploration, and human history.
Short nonfiction readings, vocabulary activities, writing prompts, colorful illustrations, and hands-on projects help students connect physical geography with the people who live in and travel through these environments. Along the way, they'll learn about early explorers, Native American history and cultures, and the ways natural features shape the world around us.
The workbook's cross-curricular approach strengthens reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and critical-thinking skills while building geographic understanding. Optional cut-and-glue activities provide additional opportunities for hands-on learning and concept reinforcement.
Aligned with current geography standards, Skill Sharpeners Geography Grade 3 includes a removable answer key and access to a free downloadable teaching guide with pacing suggestions, journal prompts, extension activities, and field trip ideas.
From towering mountains and winding rivers to powerful volcanoes and historic journeys, Skill Sharpeners Geography Grade 3 helps students see how geography influences both the natural world and human experience.

How to Use Skill Sharpeners Geography Grade 3
- Complete the instructional pages and about two activity pages each week. This steady pace allows your child to explore each topic thoroughly while comfortably finishing the workbook during the school year.
- Read the nonfiction passages together or allow your child to read independently, depending on his ability level. Encourage discussion as you go, especially when studying topics such as volcanoes, earthquakes, deserts, explorers, and world cultures.
- Use the vocabulary activities, writing prompts, and comprehension questions to help your child connect new information with what he already knows. Geography at this level is as much about understanding people and places as it is about memorizing facts.
- Include the optional cut-and-glue activities whenever possible. These hands-on projects help reinforce key concepts and provide a welcome change of pace from reading and writing.
- Keep basic supplies such as scissors, glue, crayons, markers, and tape nearby so projects are easy to complete when they appear.
- Use the removable answer key for quick review, and download the free teaching guide for additional pacing suggestions, journal prompts, extension activities, and field trip ideas.
- As the year progresses, your child will begin to see how landforms, weather, natural disasters, cultures, and exploration have shaped both the physical world and human history.

We are working through the entire series. It covers a lot of information, but there are few questions to assess if kids truly learned the material. Since we do US and World Geography as separate curriculums to memorize names, states, and countries, it's ok for us that this curriculum is a bit simpler and has less burden. But if this is the only curriculum you are doing for geography you might want to pick up a workbook on Evan Moore and fill out some maps and quiz on names of places.

This is our second year with the Skill Sharpeners Geography. The material covered varies from year to year, but builds on previous knowledge. I feel like the variety of activities keeps my son interested without being overwhelmed. I enjoy the low prep nature of this resource.

Great, but Fast

I love the information in this book, but both my kids zoomed through it so fast that I ran out of things to teach. I wish there was a little more to them to give them more practice, but a great buy and well worth having!
